NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR 2024 NEWCASTLE VOLUNTEER SERVICE AWARDS

Nominations for the 2024 Newcastle Volunteer Service Awards are now open.

As the Federal Member for Newcastle, I have the pleasure of attending lots of community events where I see first-hand the extraordinary efforts of our fantastic, dedicated, and hard-working volunteers.

It has been a tough few years for community groups and not-for-profit organisations in Newcastle, but volunteers have never stopped participating in our community, identifying a need and pitching in to help. They are on the front-line during emergencies, servicing with the SES and local surf life-saving clubs, but volunteers also support our community throughout the year.

There is not a single football or netball match on the weekend that does not require an army of volunteer coaches, referees, and canteen workers. Community organisations dedicated to the arts, environmental protection, animal welfare, education, disability, and aged care are all made possible because of volunteers.

To nominate your unsung hero for 2024, visit sharonclaydon.com and click on the nomination form - it is that simple.

Nominations close on Friday, 30 August, 2024.

I acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which my office stands, the Awabakal and Worimi people, and pay my respects to Elders past and present.

I acknowledge the sorrow of the Stolen Generations and the impacts of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. I also recognise the resilience, strength and pride of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
